Some people suffer from severe depression, which means the symptoms are severe and it’s evident that something is not right. While other people generally feels despairing and uncomfortable, without knowing the reason why they are feeling so. Few signs of depression that could indicate that you or any person is suffering from depression are listed below. Being depressed is totally a different thing, rather than just feeling sad, which is a normal part of everyone’s life. Different symptoms can be caused- physical as well as emotional, that continues to exist and affects day-to-day life of a person.

In the United States, about 6.7 percent of adults are suffering from depression, says National Institute of Mental Health. And according to World Health Organization, an extent of 350 million of people of different age group suffer from depression.

People suffering from depression has to face various problems such as hopelessness, loss of interest on things, feeling of sadness, loneliness, etc. All these kind of feelings can impede with ability of a person to function properly and has a sudden effect on their life.

But the physical symptoms of depression that you are not still aware of shall never be ignored despite knowing the emotional symptoms.   1. Weight Loss or Gain

The hormones that make your desire to eat more or less than generally you do, or that regulates your appetite gets affected due to depression. Another problem that compound with depression is sleeping, and since lack of sleeping can disorder your fullness hormones and same hunger.

A study published in the Journal of Health Psychology in the year 2008 reported that the person suffering from depression are probably at higher risk of growing obesity than people without depression. And even among people with depression, the higher risk of obesity is for adolescent females. Reviewing data from sixteen different studies, these are the resulted findings.

  1. Aches and Pains

Depression may also lead to joint or muscle pain. Because what happens is that, in depression a person tries to hold their feelings, that after sometime comes out physically as body pain. Whether it is a back pain or a headache, it is obvious that suppressed emotions comes out as a physical pain.

According to a study published in PLOS ONE in the year 2014, it is found that a patient with remitted depression or current or anxiety disorder, and those people with more symptoms have more cardio-respiratory or more disabling pain, in comparison with people without anxiety disorder or depression. However, this permits further research.

However, there are some other cases where pain also results in depression. For example, if you are facing a lot of problems while doing household work or while walking, then it might make you feel low.

According to a study published in the Canadian journal of Psychiatry in the year 2005, people suffering from fibromyalgia are more probably like to have major depression than people without having fibromyalgia.

With mood disorders and anxiety, back is also one of the common among that. This is because of the reason that depressed have a habit of drooping that causes back pain.

Depression also has a strong connection with digestive problems and such problems can occur, constipation, bloating, irritable bowel, etc.

The gut is especially responsive to the mood state of yours. Approx. 80-90 percent of the serotonin, which is a mood-boosting neurotransmitter, gets manufactured by the nerve cells in your body.

Above that, people suffering from depression tend to eat more sugar or food loaded with more sugar that stimulate inflammation of your brain and also the imbalance of bad and good bacteria in the gut is caused due to that.
